We have plenty coming up across all our platforms this week after a great response to Friday’s Celtic Soul Podcast when we had former Celtic goalkeeper Johnathan Gould join us to chat about new Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou and look back at the success he had keeping goal in 1997/98 season when Celtic stopped Rangers doing the 10 and he was also between the sticks when Martin O’Neill led Celtic to a treble in his first season.

The full uncut interview will also appear on Celtic Fanzine TV later in the week and we will also but out the full audio broadcast of the recent Celtic Fan Media meeting with Ange and Dominic McKay on the our podcast platform, the video is now available on YouTube at Celtic Fanzine TV.

We have another interesting guest lined up for this Friday’s Celtic Soul Show and the Talk from the Terrace returns later today on Celtic Fanzine TV when Alternative View, Editor Matt McGlone joins us to chat about the new manager, pre-season, season books, Leigh Griffith’s, and life in Glasgow as we wait for to get back in Celtic Park.

Later in the week we hope to chat to someone from Celtic Shared to ask some questions about the recent statement they released which has been met with a mixed reaction from the Celtic Support and we hope to have John Hartson who is no stranger to scoring goals for Celtic also joining us on the show to look ahead to the new season. All content will also be available on all podcast platforms in audio format.

Also keep an eye on the website for articles and long reads and if there is any real news, we will keep you updated and try and steer away from sensationalized click headlines with little substance as we enter silly season in the transfer market.

My first thoughts on Ange and indeed the new CEO Dom McKay, are positive. I was on the Ange train after he became the favourite for the job, I consumed as much content about him as I could and spoke to Japanese based journalist Dan Orlowitz and everything I heard and watched was favourable.

Having watched him talk to the media and fans media, he comes across well. Our own Erin Boyle was there to ask a question to Dom McKay and Ange, asking Dom about the clubs engagement levels was a good starter with McKay saying hopefully events like Fridays fans media event will be the start and also that he hopes the fans can be in the stadium soon.

Erin then asked Ange about the backroom make up, he hasn’t ruled anyone in or anyone out it seems and is going to take his time to evaluate the people there and see if any gaps need filled.

Postecoglou spoke several times throughout the event about his belief in attacking football and if they get that right then winning takes care of itself. It sounds like he expects a lot of effort from the players to fit his system, a form of 4-3-3, it may be similar to what we seen in the first couple of years of Brendan Rodgers style of play. He spoke about his late father and how he loved watching great attacking teams and that has led to him adopting this style of play, in which his father would have appreciated.

McKay, mentions buzz words like connectivity and modernisation several times. Which if they come to fruition could see the club become better with keeping fans in the loop. McKay said he was aware of Ange having spent time in Australia and Japan and said that when offered the job, Postecoglou did not hesitate, which for me is a good sign.

We saw Eddie Howe appear all but set to take the job only to pull out last minute, he doesn’t appear close to landing any of the English Premier League jobs on the go and in fact has done a similar thing to Crystal Palace several years ago. We may have dodged a bullet with Howe. Yet, Ange, didn’t hesitate. Leaving his comfort zone of Asian football to take a crack in Europe.

It’s clear the chase of Howe went on longer than should have been allowed and now Postecoglou has to try and instil his style to a depleted squad with a Champions League qualifier only weeks away. It will be a big task with a tougher start to the qualifiers than we have seen in recent years. The likelihood is that we will struggle to qualify for the Champions League this year, that would have been the case no matter who was the manager.

However hopefully by the time the league season kicks off the players will have had time to adapt and Ange had time to analyse the squad and we get off to a flier.

Mick Kane hails from Glasgow. He has been hooked on Celtic since he went to his first game when he was 7. Celtic beat Hamilton 8-3 at Celtic Park on the 3rd of January 1987. His favourite player at the time, Brian McClair scored four goals.

He started going regular as a 16 year old when Celtic played at Hampden for the season, being a Southsider it meant a short train journey to get to Hampden. From then he has had a season ticket travelled around Europe for games as Celtic became the dominant force in Scottish football again. A nice change from growing up during Rangers run to 9 in a row.

That’s us back at HQ for the new season and looking forward to getting back to Celtic Park at some stage and to meet up with mates for a beer and an after-match chat something that has been missing in all our lives. The vaccine should prove to be the game changer as we try to get back to normality. Our comeback Celtic AM pre-match show in Glasgow may be sooner than we think but, in the meantime, we have a new podcast studio to move into to which should keep us busy while we wait.

The beer gardens opened over 3 weeks ago in time for the Euros which have been outstanding as has the weather. I used the time off to travel around the country and catch up with fellow fans who I meet regularly on my travels following Celtic home and away and all of them have renewed their season books and can’t wait to get back on a plane or a boat and stroll down the Gallowgate and up to Celtic Park.

Not too much happened at Celtic over the past 3 weeks apart from a few headlines linking us with the odd player until the arrival of Ange Postecoglou in Glasgow after his 2-week in self-isolation at last something real to read about and listen to.

We were invited to the Celtic Fan Media press conference at Celtic Park, and we thank Celtic for that, Erin Boyle represented our team and I’m sure if Ange brings success, she can pen a poem in his honor.

A positive move by the new Celtic CEO, Dominic McKay to join Ange and speak to the fan media, he came across very polished and answered most questions like a Politician while the new manager seemed honest and looking forward to the massive challenge that lies ahead including a Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland.

I am trying to be as positive as possible, and the new manager will have the full backing of every Celtic supporter, but I can’t help thinking that he should have his own backroom team in place now rather than later if things go tits up early in the season.

Dominic McKay is the only new face in the board room which will disappoint some fans who think that it needs a complete shake up as many of the current directors have been hanging around the Celtic Park corridors for too long and the way they have chosen to run the club has become stale and some would say outdated with no Director of Football or Chief Scout appointed as yet after Nick Hammond’s disastrous term came to a premature end.

I hope like every other Celtic fan that the new manager and CEO can turn things around and bring some positive vibes back to the support who are backing the new manager, but you always have a doubt in your mind at just how slow business gets done these days down Parkhead Way.
