Latest Celtic News

With many of Celtic’s senior players still on holidays it was a youthful Celtic team that took to the field last night to take on Scott Brown’s Ayr United. The Celtic team also featured a number of fringe first team players and fans favourite, Kyogo who scored Celtic’s only goal from the penalty spot in a 1-1 draw.

9,000 fans turned up at Somerset Park for the opening of the new stand on the night that the cream of World Football were turning out in the Euros for Spain, Germany, France and Portugal and available to watch on TV. Friendly games such as last nights are a great chance for younger Celtic fans to enjoy an away day with their parents.

Brendan Rodgers used all 25 players named in the matchday squad including 3 goalkeepers. It was noticeable that Siegrist was not one of them and Celtic fans were wondering where he was with still 2 years left on his contract.

Oh who played 45 minutes last night could be on his way out if Celtic can get the Adam Idah deal over the line with interest coming from Belgian Club, Gent offering somewhere in the region of £4m. The South Korean fell down the first team selection pecking order when Idah came to Glasgow on a short term deal.

Idah’s contribution was outstanding, scoring some very important goals away to Motherwell, Hibs and the rangers to help secure the SPFL trophy and he made our summer with that late winner at Hampden to wrap up the double.

Irish underage international, Bosan Lawell was the stand out Celtic player on the night and the manager spoke of him and the qualities he has after the game. Stephen Welsh captained the team and spoke about the importance of the game for getting the fitness levels up ahead of the stat of the season.

Next up Wednesday night Celtic take a short journey from the East End of Glasgow to the Southside to play Queens Park. Tickets were only made available for this one to the home teams season ticket holders but it will be streamed on Celtic TV.

Rocco Vata has moved on to Watford, as Celtic fans wait for news of who will come into strengthen Celtic’s first team. The club is awash with money and selling clubs will know this. Celtic have plenty of money in the bank and the share price is now at its highest value in 23 years.

Celtic are expected to bank another £30m from the upcoming Champions League but will need to add quality to the team to compete at European Elite level and that has to start with a goalkeeper who is on top of Brendan’s shopping list.

One Celtic player still involved in competitive football is Alister Johnston who will now line up against Messi’s Argentina in the midweek semi-final of the Copa America after a penalty shoot out victory over Venezuela.

THE BHOYS ARE BACK

The summer break from all things Celtic is almost over as the Euros enter the quarter final stages in Germany, Celtic minus their international stars return to action against Ayr United tomorrow night (Friday 06 July)

Ayr United are managed by Scott Brown, the game will give Brendan Rodgers another look at some of Celtic’s younger players and those on the fringes of the first team. The game kicks off at Somerset Park at 19:45 and will be shown on Celtic TV

Double winner Adam Idah future at Celtic FC still remains in limbo. Celtic’s bid for the Cup Final goal scoring hero to Norwich estimated somewhere between £4 / £5 million has been as expected knocked back by the English Club.

Since we brought out our Summer Special More than 90 Minutes Celtic Fanzine, we all have had time to digest the SPFL fixtures as Ibrox crumbles and the rangers remain homeless as the season fast approaches.

We have also this week heard of the sad news of the wife of Tommy Burns, Rosemary’s sudden death which followed on from the death of Celtic saviour John Keane. We would like to offer our condolences to both families at this very sad time. Full tributes in the next issue of the fanzine.

Here Comes the Summer

Here Comes the Summer

Oh baby baby what can I do
You know you drive me crazy when I’m looking at you
The summer’s really here and it’s time to come out
Time to discover what fun is about

Here comes the summer

Lyrics from the Undertones song. I went to see on the night Alan Stubbs, Hibs team beat the Rangers in Scottish Cup Final back in 2016. On loan Celtic player Anthony Stokes scored twice in the 3-2 dramatic win for the Edinburgh side. Hibs won the cup that afternoon for the first time in 114 years.

Hibs fans singing Sunshine on Leith was a special moment for their fans but since that night the Undertones song always reminds me of the Scottish Cup Final and I was singing it in the build-up to Saturday’s game and since then it has been ingrained in my mind as we look forward to a summer knowing that we beat the Rangers with a 90th minute goal form Ireland’s Adam Idah to complete a double over our arch rivals. It was sweet!

There was no Undertones gig last Saturday night but I celebrated the win with like-minded Celtic fans into the wee hours of the morning in Glasgow city centre which also set us up for a Beautiful Sunday.

I was reminded after the game that we have only 10 weeks till the start of the league but if you can’t wait that long to see Celtic you can see them in action when they travel to Somerset Park to take on Scott Brown’s, Ayr United in a pre-season friendly on Friday July 5th .

Enjoy the summer folks. A double winning season for Brendan Rodgers who did tell us when he returned to the Celtic hot seat that he would see us back here in May and there have been some celebrations inside and outside Celtic Park since we beat the Rangers 2-1.

Here at Mt90M we have started putting together the Summer Special fanzine. See you on the road next season and thanks for the continued support.

Excitement builds ahead of Saturday

All roads now lead to Hampden Park on Saturday for the Scottish Cup 3pm kick off when the Champions of Scotland, Celtic take on the tribute act known as the rangers.

Celtic go into the game in confident mode after beating their Glasgow rivals 4 times in the league this season. Celtic fans will be looking once again to paint the town Green and White after last weekend’s title party celebrations.

The party got started after Celtic beat the rangers at Celtic Park to move 6 points clear. Pubs not only in Glasgow but all around the World started popping the champagne corks.

With only a point needed on our visit to Rugby Park to retain the title and complete the 3IAR, the Celtic players really turned on the style. There were plenty of smiling faces the next day in the workplace even if many were nursing hangovers.

Last Saturday was just one big party from the Celtic team’s arrival up Paradise way led by Joe Hart on his last day between sticks for the Hoops till the wee hours of Sunday morning.

The Green Brigade display as Joe emerged from the tunnel for the second half was a touch of class. I’m sure he enjoyed the day as did thousands of fans who gathered in the East End of the city for the street party.

But the party is now on hold as we look towards Saturday and Brendan Rodgers will be preparing the team for the game. Let’s hope it’s a double celebration as excitement builds ahead of Saturday and another Glasgow Derby.
