Ange's post match reaction

Calmness surrounds Celtic since Ange has been Around

Celtic continued their Pre-season friendly at the Městský Stadion, Ostrava, Czech Republic, the home of Banik Ostrava. Celtic were backed by 100 hardcore fans who made the journey to cheer on the bhoys.

After a slow start Celtic found themselves a goal down after 7 minutes but by the 13th minute they were back in the game after Kyogo equalised before Matt O’Riley made it 2-1 which remained the score line at half time when Ange rang in the changes to get game time into as many Celtic players as possible before the real business starts on flag day.

It did not take Giakoumakis long to stamp his mark on the game with a typical one touch finish in front of goal. The home side backed by a lively support celebrating the clubs centenary in the TAPPS OFF weather celebrated a second goal before Abada sealed the 4-2 victory.

There is a calmness around the Celtic team and us the support this pre-season when you consider the panic we all felt last season when Ange rolled into Glasgow. We wondered if he could get players in and we wondered would we be back watching Celtic inside Celtic Park for the Champions League qualifier or the start of the SPFL campaign. What a difference a year makes its, chalk and cheese comes to mind.

Each game gives Ange food for thought as players compete for the starting jersey when the SPFL kicks off.

Next up Blackburn at Celtic Park on Saturday. Thankfully its not billed as a battle of Britain or Men against Bhoys which was almost 20 years ago.

Celtic Fan Ciaran Signs for Sheffield United

Celtic fan and Irish international defender Ciaran Clark has completed a season-long loan move from Newcastle to Sheffield United.

We last spoke to Ciaran at the Celtic v the Rangers game at Celtic Park when Celtic closed in on the title after 1-1 draw thanks to a Jota goal and on a day when Maeda had plenty of chances to secure all three points.

He hinted that day that we would be moving on as he was not part of Eddie Howes plans.

Ciaran, who began his career at Aston Villa, has 36 senior international caps and made 13 Premier League appearances for Newcastle last season. We wish Ciaran all the best and look forward to seeing him cheering on the bhoys once again this season.

Summer of Celtic

Well, that’s us back at More than 90 Minutes Celtic Fanzine HQ after our summer break as we get ready for another season following Celtic FC. We will be without our friend and Euro’s Away Days contributor, Scott Crystal who sadly passed away recently and we also lost Gary “Bomber” Murphy who was one of the original St. Margaret’s CSC members when the club was formed back in 1998. I spent many hours travelling with the Bomber over land and sea following Celtic. RIP to both, they will be missed.

After the success of last season, we can now look forward to the Champions League Group Stages and automatic qualification has allowed Ange to bring in some new players and tie up last season loan signings on permanent deals. Jota, Maeda, and Carter Vickers all signed on and have been joined by Ben Siegrist and Alexandro Bernabei to bolster up the squad while Ange has also recruited Harry Kane to his backroom team while Stephen McManus moves from the first team to work with the Celtic B team.

Lockdown outcast Boli Bolingoli has finally left the club permanently moving to Belgian club, Mechelen. Some young players have also left the club for pastures new including Ross Doohan, Karamoko Dembele, Barry Coffey, Luca Connell, Brody Paterson, Jonathon Afolabi, Ryan Mullen, and Frankie Deane and you would expect a few more senior fringe players to move on.

Pre-Season is now well under way and Celtic have a win and draw under their belt as preparations continue ahead of the defense of the SPFL trophy which now sits all shined up along with the league cup in the Celtic Park trophy room. Celtic continue pre-season this evening in the Czech Republic against Banik Ostrava and the game is live on Celtic TV.

Australian based fans are looking forward to the Sydney Super Cup during the World Cup Winter shut down when Celtic return to Oz to play Everton and Sydney FC while those based closer to Celtic Park will be looking forward to the Champions League draw, 3 big nights under the disco lights at Celtic Park and 3 away days around Europe.

This summer saw everyone getting back to normality after two rough summers under restrictions with festivals and gigs to enjoy once again. The musical highlight for me was Paul Heaton in Dublin, while I’m hearing great reports about Celtic fan favorites Gerry Cinnamon, Liam Gallagher, and Lewis Capaldi and before the summer is out, I will get the chance to see Paulo Nutini once again.

Big shout out to the NAFCSC for the invite to design and produce the official merchandise for the weeklong party in Las Vegas which I had the pleasure of attending with the Bhoys. It was a great week as always in the sunshine and great to catch up with so many familiar faces.

It’s going to be a busy season for us with plenty to look forward to following Celtic and, we are returning to Thailand for the Celtic Festival in March for 10 days in Bangkok and Pattaya from Friday 10 to Monday 20 of March.

I have also been invited to host a number Celtic supporters’ functions throughout the season around Ireland and I am looking forward to working with former Celtic players including John Hartson and Alan Thompson again.

In the short term it’s time to knuckle down and get the first More than 90 Minutes Celtic Fanzine of the season out (issue 122), get the website updated with news and articles and kick off the Celtic Soul podcast once again after the extended summer break. Keep an eye out for t-shirts, badges, and merchandise at the online shop.

Celtic Away Days – Scott Chrystal RIP

The Celtic Support has lost another supporter far too early. We are all saddened at More than 90 Minutes of the loss of our friend and regular contributor, Scott Chrystal.

Scott wrote many of our European Away Days features and anyone who travels regularly with Celtic away in Europe will know Scott.

He could also be found at St. Pauli games with his great friends Average Joe Miller and Michael Pringle. Pictures attached are Scott with Average Joe and Scott and Michael in the dugout acting out Kris Commons fall out with Ronnie Delia when he was taken off against Molde.

Scott loved his music and also could be found keeping court in McChuills when in Glasgow.

Deepest Condolences to Scott’s family and friends . RIP Pal, We will miss you on those away days. YNWA.
