The Celtic team selections have been baffling this season and it continued against Dundee United on Wednesday night at Celtic Park. Martin O’Neill decided to start with Hogh, Duran and Osmand upfront. All centre forwards.
The under performing Hogh down the middle with Duran and Osmand on the wings. Eyebrows would have been raised when you consider Jota and Hassan were on the bench.
We all want to see Hogh get on the scoresheet but it should not come at the cost of Celtic dropping points. Duran is our best central forward. He scores regularly and is our No. 1 striker. Play him in his best position!
He was out on his feet long before he was taken off. Hogh provided the assist for Duran’s opener but along with Osmand was whipped off at half time after Dundee United came from behind to go in at halftime with a 2-1 win.
The visiting fans were the happier at half time, as some frustrated Celtic fans booed the Celtic players off the pitch. One Celtic fan said to me at half time who do you think will be taken off this half time. Which seems to sum up this season. The manger still does not know his best starting 11 and that includes the goalkeeper.
The subs did make a difference, Celtic were better in the second half and Scales secured a share of the points on a night when the rangers also came from behind to get a share of the points in Tynecastle.
I am sure I will get some more reaction from Celtic fans in the airport on the way home but things are not right at the club. Confidence is low on and off the park. Falkirk are next on Sunday before Besiktas come to Celtic Park next Thursday night. We badly need a win in Europe but I just can’t see it happening. I hope I am proved wrong.
The Celtic board room remains a clueless mess, they still have no full time chairman. Dermot Desmond never bothers to turn up to see the mess. He seems happy to stay away as long as his investment is protected and no one upsets his golf swing.
