MAN OF THE MATCH: Stephen Welsh will be delighted with himself tonight after a man of the match performance having kept his place after the comfortable win on Tuesday at Rugby Park. I was just settling in to watch the game when he scored the opening goal from a set piece. Excellent start for Celtic and the youngster, this can only give him confidence now to hold down a regular place alongside Ajer with big Jullien out injured and Shane Duffy looking more comfortable on the bench than in the box.
HONOURABLE MENTION: Greg Taylor who has come in for criticism in the past left everything on the pitch today. Plenty of commitment and deserves credit, he is now making the left back jersey his ahead of Diego Laxalt who saved our blushes with a goal line clearance in the very last second after he replaced Greg in the second half.
FIRST HALF: Celtic dominated the first half but once again numerous chances were squandered in front of the visitors goal. Failure to finish chances has cost us dearly this season.
SECOND HALF: Eddies goal and Celtic’s second was like a piece of poetry. Well worked and delivered with beauty. 2-0 easy street, well not really. Motherwell scored against the run of play and then it was heart in the mouth stuff as the seconds ticked down to the final whistle with two desperate clearances needed to save our blushes. Is it any wonder my ulcers are playing up?
REF WATCH: Nick Walsh must have forgot his red card. Two sending off offences from the visitors which only warranted yellows in his humble opinion. Scott Brown was sent off for less recently. More honest mistakes and I’m sure there will be a few more tomorrow.
CELTIC TV: Gerry McCulloch on Celtic TV commentary compared David Turnbull to Paul McStay only for his co-commentator and brother of Paul, Willie McStay to point out his brother was a different type of player in a diplomatic type of way when he really wanted to say “NO, JUST SHUT UP”, Gerry tried to save himself a little when he came back with it wasn’t him who said it but a comment on social media. Own goal Gerry!
MATCH REACTION: Stephen Welsh and Neil Lennon spoke after the game, Lenny said we were great for 70 minutes and should have scored a few more. Welsh happy, Lenny relieved.
FAN REACTION: The CSC WhatsApp and social media were quite again after another win, Tonight it’s the ref getting the grief instead of Neil Lennon, in a strange way it seems like Lenny is now in a caretaker managers role until the end of the season and Celtic remain in transition mode. If we had played like this throughout the season we could enjoy cracking open a beer tonight, still in the title race and relieved by the late, late clearance off the line!
