As the Euro’s reach their conclusion this week, Celtic begin their training camp in Wales, with the first game coming today as we take on Sheffield Wednesday.
The mood amongst the fans seems to have shifted to a bit more positivity lately, maybe after we heard from Ange Postecoglou and Dom McKay a couple of weeks ago. The clubs social channels seem to have had a bit of a jump start, with less birthday wishes and more decent content. The Ange Mic’d up video gave us a glimpse of the managers coaching style and has gone down well.
These pre season friendlies are about trying things out, for Ange to have a look at players in action and get fitness levels up for the first Champions League qualifier on July 19th against FC Midtjylland, in what is a tougher than normal start to the qualifiers.
Today’s game will probably see a lot of younger and fringe players given a run out, the Scotland contingent only returned to training on Monday. The two young players we recruited from Sheffield Wednesday will likely face their former team mates. Hopefully the likes of Lee O’Connor and Luca Connell can get some game time and we can see what they are about after successful loan spells last season.
The club continue to be linked with several players, Hickey, Vuscovic, Ryan, Wyke have all been linked over the last few weeks. The latest name in fray in Swedish stopper, Carl Starfelt, who is currently playing in Russia for Rubin Kazan. The 26-year-old is reportedly close to agreeing terms. The defence will need shored up if as expected Kris Ajer moves on. Edouard and Christie continue to be linked with moves so the next few weeks will be busy on the transfer market.
It’s ways exciting under a new manager, new players come in, new styles of play and the unknown beckons. Let’s hope Ange takes us on a great journey.
