Peter Grant looks ahead to Celtic Festival  

Back in the 1987/88 season Celtic were celebrating our Centenary. 100 years of our famous club Celtic had another special manager in Billy McNeill and he and his players delivered a double in that famous season.

Two of those Celtic players from the Centenary season Peter Grant and Joe Miller will be joining us in Rosie Maguires for the Celtic Festival and on Friday 05 June at 5pm they will take to the stage to share their stories and tales from the dressing room during that fairytale season.

The Celtic Supporters Festival will officially be launched on Thursday 04 June by former Celtic Players Alan Thompson, Tommy Johnson, Jackie McNamara, Simon Donnelly, Joe Miller and Peter Grant at 5pm at Rosie Maguires in Cabo Roig.

Keltic Moods kick off the music on the Courtyard Stage at 6pm followed by Antonio Rae. The Charity Take Your Pick will take place at 10pm before we move inside to the late night stage for Cooney & Danny before Clover rip up the room.

Limited Weekend Tickets are available as well as some one day tickets. Children under 14 go free with paying Adults.

The last time I was in Egans I shared the stage with two of Lenny’s former team mates Chris Sutton and Alan Thompson. Neil Lennon needs no introduction to Celtic fans and his CV as both a player and manager are there for all to see. The record books don’t lie.

He played a big part in Martin O’Neill’s first era in charge and captained the team under Gordon Strachan to the last 16 of the Champions League. As Celtic manager he steered Celtic to a famous win over Barcelona on a very special night at Celtic Park as we celebrated the 125^th anniversary of our club and what a night we had in Rome when his Celtic team beat Lazio.

He has took his current club Dunfermline from second from bottom in the league to the play offs and a cup final against Celtic.

A stalwart of the Glasgow Irish music scene, Cooney and Danny’s unique sound has become synonymous with a wild night on the town!

Ciarán Cooney (Birr, Co. Offaly, Ireland) on guitar and vocals and Danny McGuinness (Glasgow,  Scotland) on tin whistle are decorated professional touring  musicians.

They first began working together during their tenure with renowned  Irish dance show ‘Irish Celtic’  which saw them touring  worldwide for the last 10 years.

When not on the road touring,  Cooney & Danny are resident  musicians at Glasgow’s award  winning ‘Kitty O’Shea’s’ Irish  pubs. Playing every week in both of the Glasgow locations.

With years of professional experience both individually and as a duo, Cooney & Danny perform a mix of folk ballads, lively traditional tune sets and traditional takes on classic and modern day songs.

Their show  promises to leave you singing and dancing until the early hours!

Cooney and Danny are part of a fantastic musical line at the Festival which also includes Antonio Rae, Clover, Eddie Sherlock and Keltic Moods.

Former Celtic Players Peter Grant, Joe Miller, Jackie McNamara, Simon Donnolly, Tommy Johnston and Alan Thompson are already confirmed for what promises to be one hell of a Celtic Party.

Tommy signed for Celtic in March 1997 by the late great Tommy Burns from Aston Villa after sitting in the Celtic dressing room talking to Tommy about football. He was gutted when Fergus McCann sacked Tommy a few months later only to be reunited with him when he returned to the dugout with Kenny Dalglish after John Barnes was sacked.

He enjoyed the good times when Celtic stopped rangers doing 10IAR and a treble winner under Martin O’Neill. He knows what it is like to be in the dressing room with O’ Neill and he knows the frustrations of being sidelined at Celtic like so many first team regulars this season.

In two months time we will be basking in the Summer sunshine in Cabo Roig, Alicante sipping a few cool ones in Rosie Maguires at the Celtic Supporters Festival from Thursday 04 June till Sunday 07 June.

Hopefully we will be celebrating some silverware as we now enter the business end of the season with only 6 games to go. Celtic Park will host 4 games and the travelling Celtic support will be on the road twice. We are in for a tense but exciting end to the season.

The final line up has been announced for the 4 days and nights festival on The Costa Blanca but the Rosie crew may have one or two more tricks up their sleeve. They have pulled out all the stops to fly in top acts from Ireland and Scotland. Antonio Rae, Cooney & Danny, Clover and Keltic Moods will be live on stage every day while DJ Fat Bhoy Tim will be also joining them to keep the party going.

There are a number of event with the Celtic players Jackie McNamara. Tommy Johnson, Simon Donnelly, Joe Miller, Peter Grant and Alan Thompson hosted by Andrew Milne from More than 90 Minutes & the Celtic Soul Podcast.

Martin O’Neill arrived in the East End of Glasgow on 01 June 2000 and was unveiled as Celtic manager. He spoke outside Celtic Park and said “It’s an absolute honour for me to be the manager here, an absolute honour,” “I will do everything I possibly can to bring some success to this club.”

That first season, the Irishman delivered Celtic’s first domestic treble in 32 years, with Henrik Larsson leading the way with 53 goals, including 35 in the league which saw him win Europe’s Golden Boot Award.

Join us in Spain at the Celtic Supporters Festival in Cabo Roig from Thursday June 04 till Sunday June 07 to hear the story of Martin O’Neill’s first stint at the club with 3 of the Celtic players who were part of that treble winning season.

Jackie McNamara, Alan Thompson and Tommy Johnson were all team mates during that season.

The 3 players will be joining us in Rosie Maguires for the Celtic Festival and on Sunday 07 June at 3pm they will take to the stage to share their stories and tales from the dressing room during that treble winning season and the Road to Seville.

Where better to relive our journey to Seville than sipping a few cool ones in the Spanish sunshine.
