Glasgow’s Green & White – Big Match Preview

Things couldn’t have played out any better over the past couple of games for Celtic ahead of the derby match tonight.

The wins over Hearts and Dundee United along with Rangers draw against Ross County gives the Hoops the chance to go top of the table with a win.

Both the Glasgow teams haven’t been setting the world alight in the last couple of games however the fact Celtic were able to grab the late winner on Saturday shows we can grind results out and keep playing until the final whistle. On the other hand Rangers trailed then went in front only to concede an injury time equaliser.

There’s no doubt Celtic’s play is missing McGregor, Rogic, Turnbull and Kyogo who have been mainstay’s of the team this season however Hatate and O’Riley have looked like they fit right in. We will need both to be at their best on Wednesday especially as Bitton is suspended.

Rangers are missing Morelos but have been given a big boost with the late transfer window loan signing of Aaron Ramsay. The Welshman has been a great player but has hardly played for the past few years since moving to Juventus. Seems they are gambling big time on winning the league to get the Champions League money. Man for man I’m quite happy with the Celtic squad when fully fit.

This game really is massive for both teams a Celtic win and I can see Rangers struggling in the games ahead, with the pressure of their fans on their backs. A Rangers win and it will be a struggle for Celtic to claw back five points.

Rangers, both old and new, haven’t won a midweek league game against Celtic since 2000 when Dick Advocaat was the manager. Let’s hope that form continues.

Mick Kane hails from Glasgow. He has been hooked on Celtic since he went to his first game when he was 7. Celtic beat Hamilton 8-3 at Celtic Park on the 3rd of January 1987. His favourite player at the time, Brian McClair scored four goals.

He started going regular as a 16 year old when Celtic played at Hampden for the season, being a Southsider it meant a short train journey to get to Hampden. From then he has had a season ticket travelled around Europe for games as Celtic became the dominant force in Scottish football again. A nice change from growing up during Rangers run to 9 in a row.
